The Oakwood Course – 5400yds Par 67

Although Oakwood is the shortest of our courses, it is considered a thinking golfers course. The course has seen great improvements over the last few years. There have been over 1,100 trees planted on to areas of the course, tee blocks have been re-built, holes lengthened and the fairway on the 7th significantly widened. The Winter of 08/09 saw the 1st being re-developed into a testing Par 3 which plays a little over 200yds off its full length. The course offers fantastic vistas to Dartmoor as well as views of the Ashbury and Willows courses. The course also offers views across the complex to the clubhouse and adjoining facilities.

Oakwood 7th – 429 yards Par 4 – With the fairway sloping right to left, a drive down the right side of the fairway should release to the centre of the fairway. Work has been carried out to increase the yardage, by moving the tee back and the fairway has been widened. On the approach to the green, golfers must be aware of a pond on the left side of the hole, balls hit to the right side of the green will release onto the putting surface.

Oakwood 16th – 172yds Par 3 – This tricky uphill hole has been extended over the Winter of 08/09. With bunkers to the left and right of the green an accurate tee shot is required to hit this two tiered green. Landing on the right tier is important to avoid the dreaded three putt.

Oakwood 15th – 256yds Par 4 – A classic short par 4 which gives the option of going for it or laying up. The conservative option is laying up and hitting a short iron approach shot to the green over a large pond. The other option is to take a driver, but with a narrow fairway and a 245 yard carry over the pond on the right, this is a high risk option. The picture also shows the 9th and 14th greens.

Oakwood 12th – 417yds Par 4 – A straight drive is required, drives leaking to the right risk the out of bounds along the length of the hole. 80 yards from the green the hole doglegs to the left and drops to the green. Balls pitched on the slope should roll down onto the green.
